About the Show

An evening of great English music, featuring two quintessential English classics by Holst and Elgar and a recent work by the Chicago Symphony’s new Composer-in-Residence, Anna Clyne. Holst’s astrological, astronomical tour-de-force is one of the most unique blockbusters in the repertoire. Premiered in 1918, it is a set of seven dazzling, virtuosic tone poems depicting the known planets (poor Pluto is once again excluded…), including the classic opening movement, Mars, Bringer of War and Jupiter, Bringer of Jollity.
