W.S. Gilbert (of Gilbert & Sullivan fame)’s The Princess, featuring 14 songs with lyrics by Gilbert and music by Offenbach and others, is a wildly comic romp through the world of Tennyson’s epic poem “The Princess,” full of slapstick, bad puns and freewheeling humor. Written in 1870, it was adapted 14 years later to produce the much-different opera Princess Ida. This staged reading of the play features many of the company’s finest singers and actors, with piano accompaniment by Stephen O’Leary.
