Ripple Productions presents The Wheat and The Moon, written by Shawn Hirabayashi and directed by Erin Brindley. Drawing from the African myth “The Wheat and the Moon”, the Greek “Orpheus and Euridice”, Oscar Wilde’s “The Rose and the Nightingale”, the play integrates myths familiar and obscure to create the story of Hafizi and Nitida, lovers separated by death who are willing to sacrifice the order of the universe to be together one last time. With Orpheus also pursuing Nitida with his mythical determination and the Gods Bes, Baba Yaga, and Apollo encouraging the two lovers to move on for the sake of the world, The Wheat and the Moon is a moving exploration of love, mourning, and free will.
