Notes on Less Than Zero is the first evening-length work by Trajal Harrell Dance Style. Based on the notorious 80s novel Less Than Zero by Brett Easton Ellis, this new work takes Harrell’s previous choreographic explorations in formalism, fashion runway movement, and vogueing dance tradition into the realm of character and storytelling. Rather than retelling Ellis’ story, the company combines their ongoing investigation of the “aesthetic of cool” with Ellis’ themes of youthful disillusionment, decadence, self-destruction, and “way too cool” self-images.
