About This Show

Set in late ninteenth century London, Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill’s musical masterpiece The Threepenny Opera openly satirizes the morals and politics of Weimar Germany circa 1928. The piece focuses on Macheath, a cunning thief and street thug under the employ of Jonathan Peachum, king of beggars. Macheath has it all: the police under his thumb, the loyalty of his crew, the amorous attention of numerous women. But things take a radical turn when he marries the boss’ daughter. The jazzy score includes “Ballad of Mack the Knife.”
