New York City
1 Friday a Month from 8pm-10pm
For the past six years, Jazz Jam, a program which promotes the unique tradition of the open jam session, has afforded hundreds of people of all ages and backgrounds the opportunity to experience jazz, America’s true indigenous music. Combining elements of “live” showcase and workshop, the public is invited to participate in an open jam session either as performer or listener. A highly acclaimed jazz artist is featured as “special guest” who performs, leads the other musicians, and talks about various aspects of jazz.
Since Jazz Jam started many famous musicians have participated in the program. It has proven to be an ideal setting for nurturing and encouraging aspiring musicians and, at the same time, for educating and exposing novices to the world of jazz. It is truly an extraordinary and passionate exchange that occurs between musicians and audiences at the JAZZ JAM sessions.
