Based on a remarkable true story of forgiveness and personal redemption, Mercy Unrelenting recounts the events surrounding the tragic murder of a young Italian teenager, Maria Goretti, and the later reformation of her murderer, Alessandro Serenelli.
The play begins 50 years after the crime when Alessandro, now an old man living in obscurity in a Franciscan monastery, is confronted with his painful history once again and the challenge of trying to bring good from the evils of his past.
Mercy Unrelenting tells a shockingly dramatic story in a beautifully artistic way, exploring the nature of forgiveness, the possibility of redemption, and the sometimes controversial elements that have surrounded this story. Written by Jeremy Stanbary, whose original dramas have been performed for tens of thousands across the U.S. as well internationally since 2003.
