About This Show

A production of The Builders Association & dbox, Super Vision is a layered multimedia theater production that explores Digital Age anxieties to reveal the hidden realms of technological surveillance and the ways identities are shaped and reshaped as “data bodies.” Each time someone swipes a credit card, chats online, or crosses international borders, that person’s data body grows to become a virtual identity that can swiftly and covertly take priority over the real person. Super Vision is an evening of entertainment and interrogation about how to relate to this growing cloud of data and where people fit within the emerging web of surveillance culture. The program utilizes the language and technologies of surveillance itself, and the data that serves as a “trail” through the story – woven from library records, email subject lines, medical prescriptions, genealogical databases, visited websites, airline reservations, ATM records, and credit reports. The MCA first presented The Builders Association in 2003 with Alladeen, an MCA co-commission.

A Roundtable Discussion is scheduled for Saturday, October 14 at 2:00 PM in the Kanter meeting room. The event is free, and guests are invited to join artists from Super Vision for a free-ranging conversation about the topics raised by the performance.
