Pocahontas is a name known to every child in the nation, and yet her extremely exciting true story is often adjusted to fit a fairy tale format. The True Story of Pocahontas puts an emphasis on historical facts, which are truly more amazing than fantasy, presenting a playful, strong-minded young woman who is determined to change her world beore turning her back on her beliefs or herself. The colorful musical follows Pocahontas as she grows from a girl of 12 who saves Captain John Smith to become a wife and mother who carries her message of peace across the Atlantic.
The True Story of Pocahontas is a co-production of The Ridgefield Playhouse, Theatre IV and the Virginia Historical Society. The production is part of the Arts in Education program.
