Artistic director Kent Thompson has set William Shakespeare’s Measure for Measure amid the early 1900s Vienna of Sigmund Freud: un-caged sexuality, brothels, cosmopolitan life and flourishing artistic expression. The director finds many contemporary parallels in the work as Duke Vincentio entrusts Angelo, a young fundamentalist to clean up the seat of the crumbling Hapsburg Empire, closing down brothels, imprisoning pimps, and arresting unwed parents.
