Beauty Is

Sparked by meth’s influence (known as "Tina") on gay communities across America, Beauty Is uses physical theater to explore the underlying emotional reasons why people engage in self-destructive behavior and to raise awareness about the dangers of crystal methamphetamine. This engrossing production evokes the raw emotionality of missed connections, repressed tenderness, and painful pleasure that people on Tina experience. It uses the embodiment of graphic physicality and rushed extremism to enact the fantasies and horrors of crystal methamphetamine.

Hotel Obligado was founded in 2001 by graduates of the Dell’Arte International School of Physical Theatre. The company was borne out of a desire to bring vital innovative theatre to the Philadelphia community and beyond. In the past six years, Hotel Obligado has introduced over 11,000 people to a broad range of innovative, ensemble-created, community-shaped live theatre.
