Kim Cattrall received the Golden Gate Award at the 22nd Annual GLAAD Media Awards ceremony on Saturday, May 14, at the San Francisco Marriott Marquis. Glee star Naya Rivera hosted the event, with special guests including Broadway veterans Mario Lopez and Sara Ramirez.

The Golden Gate Award is presented to media professionals who, through their work, have increased the visibility and understanding of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community. Cattrall has been recognized for her work as Samantha Jones in HBO's Sex and the City, as many of the storylines were LGBT-inclusive, including Samantha's relationship with her lesbian friend Maria. Cattrall has also been a strong supporter of the LGBT community.

At the ceremony, awards were also presented to The Kids Are All Right for Outstanding Film - Wide Release; 8: The Mormon Proposition for Outstanding Documentary; and Christian Chávez for Outstanding Spanish-Language Music Artist for the album Almas transparentes. In addition, openly lesbian tech writer Kara Swisher received the Local Hero Award.

GLAAD previously held ceremonies in New York and Los Angeles, with recipients including Kristin Chenoweth (Vanguard Award), Ricky Martin (Vito Russo Award), Russell Simmons (Excellence in Media Award), and Scissor Sisters, Night Work (Outstanding Music Artist).
