Louis Sachar’s Musical Adaptation of Small Steps to Premiere at Oregon Children’s Theatre

Newbery Award-winning author Louis Sachar will adapt his novel Small Steps, into a musical that will premiere at the Oregon Children’s Theatre, running April 24 – May 16. Stan Foote will direct the production, which features original songs by Karl Mansfield and Sacher.

The show is a sequel to Holes and follows the hero Armpit as he maneuvers through unexpected, dangerous, and even romantic situations, even as he attempts to keep his goals for turning his life around in sight.

The company will feature Johnny Crawford (Armpit), Ellora Vilkin (Kaira DeLeon), Ty Jones (X-Ray), Annabel Cantor (Ginny), Jane Fellows (Cherry Lane), Heidi Wilcox (Kaira’s Mother), ileana herrin (Aileen/Debbie Newberg/Woman), John Killeen (Jack/Fred), Paul Glazier (El Genius), Eleanor Bray (Tatiana/Girl/Paramedic/Woman in Line), and Hayden Wilcox (Security Guard/Paramedic/Bully).

The creative team will include Chris Rousseau (scenic design), Mark LaPierre (lighting design), John Berendzen (sound design) and Margaret Chapman (costume design).
