The new musical is written by Marisa Michelson and Jason Grote.
Jason Grote and Marisa Michelson's new musical One Thousand Nights and One Day will have its premiere at the ART/NY Mezzanine Theatre beginning April 4. The Prospect Theater Company production, directed by Erin Ortman, will open April 15.
Based on Grote's play 1001, the musical follows a Jewish man and a Palestinian woman who fight to find love in a fractured world. The production features a score by Michelson and a book by Grote.
One Thousand Nights and One Day features Sepideh Moafi, Ben Steinfeld, Ashkon Davaran, Layan Elwazani, Chad Goodridge, Gabriella Pérez, and Graham Stevens. Further casting will be announced at a later date.
The production features choreography by Karla Garcia, scenic design by Jason Ardizzone-West, costume design by Becky Bodurtha, lighting design by Carolyn Wong, and sound design by Jeremy J. Lee. Kurt Crowley serves as musical director and co-orchestrator with Marisa Michelson.
