Ireland's Druid Theater Company's production of The Beauty Queen of Leenane begins performances tonight at Mark Taper Forum.

Set in the mountains of Connemara, County Galway, Martin McDonagh's play is described as follows: "The tale of Maureen Folan, a plain and lonely woman in her early 40s, and Mag, her manipulative, aging mother, whose interference in Maureen's first and potentially last romantic relationship sets in motion a chain of events that are as tragically funny as they are horrific."

The cast includes Aaron Monaghan (Ray), Marie Mullen (Mag), Aisling O’Sullivan (Maureen), and Marty Rea (Pato). Mullen won a Tony Award in 1998 for performance as Maureen in the Broadway production. Garry Hynes, whose 1998 Broadway production of the play earned her the Tony Award for Best Direction of a Play, returns to direct.

The design team includes Francis O’Connor (sets and costumes), James F. Ingalls (lighting), Greg Clarke (sound), Paddy Cunneen (composer), and Bryan Burroughs (fight direction).

Performances run through December 18.
