Writers Benj Pasek, Shaina Taub, and Joshua Harmon are collaborating on the new musical Unorthodox, which will receive its world premiere in the spring of 2027.

Inspired by the memoir by Deborah Feldman, Unorthodox tells the story of a young woman’s escape from Brooklyn’s restrictive Satmar Hasidic community. Feldman’s book was subsequently turned into a Netflix miniseries, which starred Shira Haas.

Unorthodox marks the first collaboration between book writer Harmon (Prayer for the French Republic) and Tony-winning songwriters Pasek (Dear Evan Hansen) and Taub (Suffs). Jordan Fein directs.

The musical will run April 29-May 30, 2027, at the Huntington Theatre in Boston.
