Kate Levy, Stephen Schnetzer, Samantha Soule, and Sara Surrey will star in a reading of Rachel Crothers’ The Importance of Being a Woman, to be directed by Eleanor Reissa. The event is being held in conjunction with the Mint Theater Spring Benefit, at The Cosmopolitan Club on Monday April 23. Leslie Hendrix will introduce the evening.

The one-act play, first printed in 1923, explores the changing social status of women in post-World War I-America. It centers on a group of glittering New York socialites and celebrities who “do good” while wearing the latest couture, women who revel in their independence while wondering if there’s something more to life than clothes, niceness, marriage, or status.
