Port Authority Extends at Chicago's Writers Theatre
Artistic Director Michael Halberstam and Executive Director Kate Lipuma of Glencoe, Illinois' Writers Theatre have announced the extension of Conor McPherson's Port Authority, directed by William Brown. The production began performances on October 29 and will now run through March 2 (extended from an original closing date of February 16) because of high ticket demand.
Port Authority stars Patrick Clear, Rob Fenton, and John Hoogenakker, as three generations of Irishmen whose stories become intertwined: Kevin (Fenton), a boy who leaves home for the first time, Dermot (Hoogenakker), a middle-aged man who lands a job for which he is completely unqualified, and Joe (Clear), a widower who receives a mysterious package.
Port Authority premiered at London's New Ambassadors Theatre in February 2001, with McPherson directing. The Atlantic Theater Company later staged the play in 2008, starring Brian d'Arcy James, John Gallagher Jr., and Jim Norton.
