Tony Award winner Phylicia Rashad and Joe Dowling, the artistic director of the Guthrie Theater, will be honored at the National Corporate Theatre Fund’s 2006 Chairman’s Awards Gala at 6:30pm on Monday, November 10 at Tavern of the Green. The event will be hosted by actress Dixie Carter and feature appearances by director Kenny Leon and Todd Haimes, the artistic director of the Roundabout Theatre Company.
Rashad, who will be honored with this year’s Theatre Artist Award, is currently starring in the title role of Bernarda Alba at Lincoln Center. She won the Tony Award for A Raisin in the Sun; her other Broadway appearances include Gem of the Ocean, Into the Woods and Jelly’s Last Jam.
Dowling, who will receive the NCTF Leadership Award, has directed such plays at the Guthrie as The Cherry Orchard, Blithe Spirit, and Much Ado About Nothing. Before joining the Guthrie, he was the artistic director of Ireland’s Abbey Theater. He also directed the Roundabout’s productions of Juno and the Paycock, Tartuffe, London Assurance, and Philadelphia, Here I Come!
