The musical, produced by the Royal Shakespeare Company and the Dodgers, begins tonight.
Matilda starts its run at Center Theatre Group at the Ahmanson Theatre today. Based on the beloved children’s book by Roald Dahl, the musical follows the life of the title character, Matilda. An extraordinary girl born into a family who doesn’t understand her, Matilda dreams of a better life. With her vivid imagination and exceptional intellect, Matilda takes her destiny into her own hands determined to be the best she can be.
Tony Award winner Matthew Warchus directs the show, which features a book by Tony Award winner Dennis Kelly and music and lyrics by Tim Minchin. The cast comprises Gabby Gutierrez, Mia Sinclair Jenness, and Mabel Tyler as Matilda, Jennifer Blood as Miss Honey, Quinn Mattfeld as Mr. Wormwood, Brcy Ryness as Miss Trunchbull, and Cassie Silva as Mrs. Wormwood.
The creative team includes Rob Howell (costume and set design), Peter Darling (choreography), Hugh Vanstone (lighting design), Simon Baker (sound design), and Christopher Nightingale (orchestrations, additional music, and musical supervision).
