Christopher Durang’s comedy comes to life under the direction of Jessica Stone.
Full casting has been announced for Huntington Theatre Company's production of Christopher Durang's Tony-winning dark comedy Vanya and Sonya and Masha and Spike. The play will run from January 2-February 1 under the direction of Jessica Stone, who bases her staging on the original Broadway work of late former Huntington Artistic Director Nicholas Martin.
The company will be led by Martin Moran (Vanya), Marcia DeBonis (Sonia), Candy Buckley (Masha), and Tyler Lansing Weaks (Spike), with Haneefah Wood (Cassandra) and Allison Layman (Nina). The creative team includes David Korins (scenic design), Gabriel berry (costume design), David Weiner (lighting design), and Mark Bennett (original music and sound design).
A comic variation on Chekhovian themes, Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike is about Vanya and his sister Sonia, who still live in their childhood home in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. When their glamorous movie-star sister, Masha, returns home with her new beau-hunk, Spike, their quotidian lives are thrown into disarray.
This production originated at San Diego's Old Globe Theatre in May 2014.
