Presenters and performers will also include Kurt Andersen, Moritz von Stuelpnagel, and Jack Herrick.
Playwrights Horizons has announced plans to hold its annual spring gala on May 4 at the event space 583 Park Avenue. The evening will honor the late philanthropist, hotelier, and real estate developer Peter Jay Sharp and the Peter Jay Sharp Foundation.
The evening’s celebration will feature performances and testimonials from Playwrights Horizons alumni including Jack Herrick (composer), Amy Herzog (playwright), Lucas Papaelias and Ray Rizzo (cocomposers and performers), Tony winner Julie White (actor), and the cast of Iowa, the show currently playing in Playwrights Horizons' Sharp Theater.
The event will also feature the participation of Culture commentator and WNYC/syndicated radio host Kurt Andersen and Broadway director Moritz von Stuelpnagel (Hand to God). Serving as gala cochairs are Pauline Oudin, Judith O. Rubin, and Marisa Sechrest.
Ever since Sharp's death in 1992, his vision has continued to be carried forward by the generous contributions of the Foundation. In 2014, as planned, the Peter Jay Sharp Foundation completed the spend-down of the majority of its funds and dissolved as a corporate entity.
