The Public Theater’s free Shakespeare in the Park production is directed by Phyllida Lloyd.
The all-female free Shakespeare in the Park production of The Taming of the Shrew celebrated its opening night on June 13. Directed by Phyllida Lloyd and starring Cush Jumbo and Janet McTeer, the production runs at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park through June 26.
Jumbo and McTeer star as Katherina and Petruchio. They are joined by Candy Buckley (Vincentio), Donna Lynne Champlin (Hortensio), Rosa Gilmore (Lucentio), Judy Gold (Gremio), LaTanya Richardson Jackson (Baptista), Teresa Avia Lim (Biondello), Adrienne C. Moore (Tranio), Anne L. Nathan (Pedant), Gayle Rankin (Bianca), Pearl Rhein (Ensemble), Leenya Rideout (Ensemble), Jackie Sanders (Ensemble), and Stacey Sargeant (Grumio).
The Taming of the Shrew features set and costume design by Mark Thompson, lighting design by Robert Wierzel, sound design by Mark Menard, and music composition by Sam Davis.
Tickets to the Public Theater’s free Shakespeare in the Park are distributed, two per person, at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park on the day of the show. The Public Theater will again offer free tickets through its Virtual Ticketing lottery on the day of the show.
