Here There Are Blueberries, About a Nazi Photo Album, Will Open on Broadway This Fall

Tectonic Theater Project’s hit play Here There Are Blueberries, the highest-grossing production in the 45-year history of New York Theatre Workshop, will open on Broadway this fall at the Barrymore Theatre. The 80-performance run begins November 2 in advance of a November 9 opening.

Co-written by Moisés Kaufman and Amanda Gronich and conceived and directed by Kaufman, Here There Are Blueberries was named a 2024 Pulitzer Prize Finalist for Drama.

In 2007, a mysterious album featuring Nazi-era photographs arrived at the desk of a US Holocaust Memorial Museum archivist. As curators unraveled the shocking truth behind the images, the album soon made headlines and ignited a debate that reverberated far beyond the museum walls. Based on real events, the play is about historical photographs and what they reveal about the perpetrators of the Holocaust and humanity.

The New York Theatre Workshop cast of Here There Are Blueberries included Scott Barrow, Nemuna Ceesay, Tony Award nominee Kathleen Chalfant, Noah Keyishian, Jonathan Raviv, Sam Reeder, Erika Rose, Anna Shafer, Elizabeth Stahlmann, Charlie Thurston, and Grant James Varjas. Casting for the Broadway run hasn’t been announced.

The creative team features scenic designer Derek McLane, costume designer Dede Ayite, lighting designer David Lander, sound designer Bobby McElver, projection designer David Bengali, and dramaturg Amy Marie Seidel.

Here There Are Blueberries recieved a workshop production at Miami New Drama in 2018, before officially debuting in 2022 at La Jolla Playhouse. It also played runs at Shakespeare Theatre Company in Washington, the McCarter in New Jersey, the Wallis Annenberg Center and Berkeley Rep in California, and Seattle Rep, in addition to an international run at Stratford East in London.
