The new play by Simon Stephens is directed by Trip Cullman.
MCC Theater has announced casting for the New York premiere of Punk Rock, a new play by Simon Stephens. The show is scheduled to begin performances at the Lucille Lortel Theatre on October 29 and run through December 7. An official opening is set for November 17. Trip Cullman will direct.
Inspired by playwright Simon Stephens’ own experiences as a teacher, Punk Rock takes place at a private school outside of Manchester, England, where a group of 17-year-olds is preparing for A-Level mock exams.
The cast will include film and TV star Douglas Smith (Big Love) as well as Pico Alexander, Lilly Englert, Lortel Award winner Annie Funke, David Greenspan, Colby Minifie, Will Pullen, and Noah Robbins.
"Simon Stephen's play is explosive — a real gut punch," said co-artistic director of MCC Theater Will Cantler in a statement. "It's the kind of writing that surprises at every twist and still feels inevitable when it's done."
