Producers Anita Waxman, Rodney Rigby, and Seattle's 5th Avenue Theatre have announced that the musical formerly titled Little Dancer will now make its West Coast premiere as Marie, A New Musical. The show is set for a limited engagement at the 5th Avenue Theatre beginning March 22, 2019, and running through April 14.

Directed and choreographed by five-time Tony Award winner Susan Stroman (The Producers), Marie features a book and lyrics by Tony Award winner Lynn Ahrens and music by Tony Award winner Stephen Flaherty — the writing partners behind Ragtime, Once on This Island, and Anastasia.

Marie is a new musical based on a famed masterpiece by Edgar Degas and the unknown dancer, Marie, who inspired it. Part fact, part fiction, and set in the glamorous and dangerous backstage world of the Paris Opera Ballet, the story follows a young woman caught between the conflicting demands of life and art, and
an artist with one last chance for greatness.

As Little Dancer, the musical had its world premiere at the Kennedy Center in 2014 starring Boyd Gaines, Rebecca Luker, and Tiler Peck.

"We are thrilled to announce the new title, Marie, ahead of our West Coast premiere at the renowned 5th Avenue Theatre," said Stroman, Ahrens, and Flaherty in a statement. "The new title brings into clear focus the remarkable young woman who inspired Degas' masterpiece."

Cast and creative team will be announced at a later date.
