Labyrinth Theater Company will present the New York premiere.
Labyrinth Theater Company has announced the cast and creative team for its upcoming New York premiere of Lucy Thurber’s The Insurgents. Directed by Jackson Gay, the drama will run from February 5-March 8 at the Bank Street Theatre, with opening night set for February 23.
The Insurgents follows Thurber’s 2013 five-play cycle The Hill Town Plays. In it, Sally Wright returns to her dead-end rural northeast town after losing an athletic scholarship. At home, forced to face her beer-guzzling father and wayward brother, Sally starts carrying her shotgun wherever she goes and buries herself in books about Harriet Tubman, Nat Turner, John Brown, and Timothy McVeigh.
The cast of The Insurgents includes Cassie Beck as Sally Wright, Dan Butler as John Brown/Peter, Craig muMs Grant at Nat Turner/Jonathan, April Matthis as Harriet Tubman/Coach, and Aaron Roman Weiner as Timothy McVeigh/Carrie.
The creative team includes Raul Abrego (sets), Paul Whitaker (lights), Jessica Ford (costumes), Daniel Baker (sound), and Ben Wexler (vocal arranger).
