Courtney B. Vance, Savion Glover, and More to Honor George C. Wolfe

The Tony-winning ”Shuffle Along” director will receive the Monte Cristo Award from the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center.

The Eugene O’Neill Theater Center has announced that Tony-winning actor Courtney B. Vance (Lucky Guy), Tony-winning choreographer Savion Glover (Shuffle Along), two-time Tony-winning director Joe Mantello (The Humans, Blackbird), and Tony-nominated actor David Marshall Grant (Angels in America) will join the program celebrating acclaimed director George C. Wolfe at a gala ceremony on May 9 in New York City.

As previously announced, Wolfe will receive the 16th Monte Cristo Award. Vance, who was directed by Wolfe in Nora Ephron's Broadway play Lucky Guy, will present the award to Wolfe during the ceremony. The event will include gala dinner at the Edison Ballroom, followed by a special program hosted by O’Neill executive director Preston Whiteway.

Wolfe is represented on Broadway this season with Shuffle Along, for which he wrote the book and which he directs. He has won Tony Awards for his direction of Angels in America: Millennium Approaches and for Bring in 'Da Noise, Bring in 'Da Funk. He has also received Tony Award nominations for his direction of Caroline, or Change, Jelly's Last Jam, Angels in America: Perestroika, The Normal Heart, and Lucky Guy, as well as his books for The Wild Party and Jelly's Last Jam.
