Center Theatre Group’s production of Straight White Men starts this evening at the Kirk Douglas Theatre.

Structured like a classic American father-son drama, the show centers on Ed and his three adult sons. The four reunite for a Christmas full of pranks, cheerful trash-talk, and Chinese food. However, the drama diverges from its larger genre as the men attempt to qualify what it means to be a straight white male in a world where identity is prized and privilege is problematic. The twist on the well-known narrative asks audiences to truly consider the value of being a straight white man.

Written and directed by Young Jean Lee, the show features Frank Boyd, Richard Riehle, Brian Slaten, and Gary Wilmes.

The creative team includes David Evans Morris (set design), Enver Chakartash (costume design), Christopher Kuhl (lighting design), and Chris Giarmo and Jamie McElhinney (sound design).

Performances will run through December 20.
