Audra McDonald, who has won three Tony Awards for her performances in Carousel, Master Class, and Ragtime, will give a benefit concert at the Prince Music Theater in Philadelphia on March 30.
McDonald will be singing songs from her recently released CD Happy Songs, which features the work of classic theater composers such as Harold Arlen and George and Ira Gershwin. She will also perform songs — some familiar, some never before heard — by contemporary writers whose work premiered at Prince Music Theater, such as Adam Guettel, Jason Robert Brown, and Ricky Ian Gordon. McDonald will be joined by a four-piece band featuring her husband, Peter Donovan, on bass and PMT associate artistic director Ted Sperling on piano.
The concert will be held on Sunday, March 30 at 7:30pm at the Prince Music Theater (1412 Chestnut Street at Broad Street). Front orchestra tickets are $75 and include admission to a post-performance reception with McDonald, while rear orchestra tickets are available for $50. All proceeds will benefit the theater’s program to support new work. To purchase tickets, call UpStages at 215-569-9700 or visit the Prince Music Theater website at www.princemusictheater.org.
