George Street Playhouse has announced casting for its upcoming production of Larry Shue’s comedy The Nerd, running April 24-May 20.

The ensemble will feature Ann Harada (Smash, Avenue Q) as Clelia, Colin Hanlon (Modern Family, Falsettos) as Willum, Kate Reinders (Something Rotten!) as Tansy, Zach Shaffer (A View From the Bridge) as Axel, Stephen Wallem (Nurse Jackie) as Waldgrave, and Jonathan Kite (2 Broke Girls) as Rick. Hayden Bercy (National Tour of A Christmas Story) rounds out the cast as 8-year-old Thor Waldgrave. Kevin Cahoon will direct.

The Nerd takes place during Willum’s (Hanlon) birthday party, which gets a jolt of hilarious excitement when Rick Steadman (Kite), a fellow ex-soldier who saved Willum's life, stops by for a visit. Upon realizing that Rick will overstay his welcome with a vengeance, Willum puts together an outrageous plan to rid himself of this wacky GI who came to dinner.

The creative team includes David Arsenault (set design), Leon Dobkowski (costume design), Jason Lyons (lighting design), Fitz Patton (sound design), Leah Loukas (hair and wig design), Kristin Pfeifer (production stage manager), and Christopher J. Bailey (production manager).

The Nerd opened on Broadway in 1987, running for over a year at the Helen Hayes Theatre, and went on to enjoy a national tour and several productions overseas.
