Alexandra Silber and Adam Kantor to Preserve Cut Fiddler Tune on New Cast Album
Onstage couple Adam Kantor and Alexandra Silber will preserve the rarely heard Jerry Bock-Sheldon Harnick song "Dear Sweet Sewing Machine," to be released as a bonus track on the new Broadway cast recording of Fiddler on the Roof.
The song was written for the show's original production as a duet for Motel and Tzeitel, but was cut during the out-of-town tryout in Detroit. As one of Harnick's favorite songs, he gave his blessing for the recording, which will be the first time this song will be heard on an official Fiddler album. New orchestrations were penned by Oran Eldor, who created this production's dance arrangements.
The Broadway Records release will also include a bonus track from virtuoso violinist Itzhak Perlman. "Excerpts From Fiddler on the Roof" is arranged by iconic composer John Williams. The album, produced by David Lai, Ted Sperling, and Louise Gund, will have its worldwide release on March 18 and be available to purchase at the Broadway Theatre beginning March 8. The recording is currently available for pre-order at the theater, on Amazon.com, and on the label's website.
Featuring a book by Joseph Stein and a score by Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick, Fiddler on the Roof is inspired by Sholom Alecheim's stories of the milkman Tevye, who tries to hold on to "tradition" as the world around him and his family in the little village of Anatevka changes. This Broadway production, directed by Tony Award winner Bartlett Sher (The King and I), is the show's sixth since its record-breaking debut in 1964.
Five-time Tony nominee Danny Burstein stars as the iconic patriarch Tevye, opposite Tony nominee Jessica Hecht as Golde, Alexandra Silber as Tzeitel, Adam Kantor as Motel, Alix Korey as Yente, Samantha Massell as Hodel, Ben Rappaport as Perchik, Jessica Vosk as Fruma Sarah, Melanie Moore as Chava, Adam Dannheisser as Lazar Wolf, Aaron Young as Sasha, Nick Rehberger as Fyedka, and Karl Kenzler as the Constable.
