2008 Jeff Award Winners Are Announced

The 2008 non-equity Joseph Jefferson Awards, given annually by The Jeff Awards Committee to honor excellence in professional theatre produced in the immediate Chicago area, were held on Monday, June 9, at the Park West.

Among the big winners were Bailiwick Repertory Theatre’ s production of Jerry Springer: The Musical, which also nabbed Jeremy Rill the award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role – Musical; Lifeline Theatre’s world premiere adaptation of The Island of Dr. Moreau; and revivals of the musicals Cabaret, produced by Theo Ubique Theatre Company in association with Beverle Bloch & Michael James, and 1776, produced by the Signal Ensemble Theatre. Teatro Luna also won Best Ensemble and Best New Work for its production of Machos, a study of male attitudes as played by Latina women in drag.
