Natasha Richardson, Vanessa Redgrave, Christine Baranski, Marc Kudisch, Jill Paice, Steven Pasquale, Alexandra Socha, and Kendra Kassebaum lend star power to the Roundabout’s spectacular concert staging of Stephen Sondheim’s A Little Night Music.
On Monday night, the Roundabout Theatre Company presented a truly spectacular concert version of A Little Night Music at Studio 54 as a benefit for the company. At concert’s end, the show’s composer-lyricist came out to applaud the all-star cast.
Real-life mother and daughter Natasha Richardson and Vanessa Redgrave were sheer perfection as onstage mother and daughter Desiree and Leonora Armfeldt.
Christine Baranski gave a scene-stealing yet touching performance as the sharp-tongued Countess Charlotte Malcolm.
Marc Kudisch — who will return to Broadway this season in 9 to 5 — was in top-notch vocal and physical form as the vain Count Carl-Magnus.
Steven Pasquale and Jill Paice were simply enchanting as the foolish Henrik and Anne, who run off with each other at the show’s end.
As the lusty servant Petra, Kendra Kassebaum earned cheers from the crowd for her searing rendition of “The Miller’s Son.”
Spring Awakening star Alexandra Socha was quite impressive as the young Frederika Armfeldt.
The concert attracted a slew of celebrities, including Mario Cantone, who is working on his own new Broadway show.
Legendary composer Marvin Hamlisch was on hand for the festivities.
Finally, here’s the fabulous Bernadette Peters, one of the world’s foremost interpreters of Sondheim’s work.
