Jordan Gelber will star in the Katharsis Theater Company’s
world premiere of The Polish Play, devised and
directed by Henry Wishcamper. The production, to be presented at Walker Space, will run from January 13 through February 3, with an official opening set for January 19.

Subtitled, “A Conflation of Macbeth
by William Shakespeare and Ubu Roi by Alfred Jarry,” the play tells the story of idiot-tyrant Père Ubu (Gelber), who is encouraged by his wife
and the Three Weird Sisters, to ascend the throne of Poland by
slaughtering the meek King Wenceslas.

Gelber is best known for originating the role of Brian in the Tony Award-winning musical Avenue Q. Most recently, he starred in the Atlantic Theater Company’s production of Tina Howe’s Birth and After Birth. Wishcamper’s directing credits include Thornton Wilder’s Pullman Car Hiawatha, which received a Drama Desk Nomination for Outstanding Revival of a Play.

The cast will also feature James Bentley, Jeff Biehl, Dana Smith-Croll, Torsten Hillhouse, Jacob H. Knoll, Lucas Caleb Rooney, Ryan Ward, and Eunice Wong.

The production team will be comprised of Qui Nguyen (fight choreography), Takeshi Kata (sets), Matthew Richards (lights), Jenny Mannis (costumes), Bart Fasbender (sound), and Aleksandra Maslik (puppets).
