Jeffrey Carlson will star in a free staged reading of Lorenzaccio, Alfred de Musset's tale of political intrigue, at 7pm on Monday, January 23 at the Jean Cocteau Repertory (330 Bowery).

Seth Duerr will direct the reading of the play, which has been translated and adapted by John Strand. In Lorenzaccio, Lorenzo de Medici allies himself with his cousin -- the notorious Alexander de Medici, Duke of Florence -- in order to eventually kill him, hoping to thereby liberate Florence from the duke's tyrannical rule.

The cast of the reading also includes Jeremy Beck, Danaher Dempsey, Bill Fairbairn, Kate Holland, Melanie Hopkins, Judith Jarosz, Timothy McDonough, Jay Nickerson, Ralph Petrarca, Marc Silberschatz, and Taylor Wilcox.

Carlson performed the role last summer at the Shakespeare Theater in Washington D.C. His other New York stage credits include The Goat and Tartuffe on Broadway, and the Off-Broadway productions of Bach at Leipzig, Manuscript, and Last Easter.
