David Chesky’s The Pig, The Farmer, and The Artist Set for Gene Frankel Theatre

Three-time Grammy nominated composer, David Chesky, will premiere his opera The Pig, The Farmer, and The Artist, at the Gene Frankel Theatre, September 30-October 17. A. Scott Parry will direct, with Anthony Aibel conducting.

Chesky’s Fellini-esque satirical opera chronicles the escape of Shirley the cow and her transvestite husband, Harvey, from the farm and their explosion into the highbrow East Village art scene. When the Pig follows to seek fame and fortune, will the farmer reclaim his prized hog or will swine become the new black? Casting will be announced at a later date.

Chesky’s works span both jazz and classical genres. He is currently composer-in-residence for the National Symphony Orchestra of Taiwan, and he recently garnered a Grammy nomination for Best Classical Contemporary Composition for his “Concerto for Bassoon and Orchestra,” and is one of the founders of the Grammy Award winning Chesky Records.
