Café Edison Owner Harry Edelstein Dies at 91

The marquees of Broadway theatres will be dimmed on July 15 at 8pm for one minute, in memory of Café Edison Owner Harry Edelstein, who died on Monday. He was 91.

Edelstein received a 2004 Tony Honor for Excellence in the Theatre for, “providing the theatre community with hearty sustenance and a cheerful home-away-from-home at the Café Edison, known affectionately as the ‘Polish Tearoom.'” Additionally, the role of Bernie in Neil Simon’s play 45 Seconds from Broadway was based on Edelstein.

Edelstein is survived by his wife, Frances; his daughter, Harriet Strohl; a son, Scott; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
