The Vineyard Theatre production is directed by television legend Garry Marshall.
Mad Men star Vincent Kartheiser will play film director Billy Wilder in the Vineyard Theatre's upcoming off-Broadway production of the new drama Billy & Ray. The production will be directed by television legend Garry Marshall.
Penned by Mike Bencivenga, the play is a behind-the-scenes look at the filming of Double Indemnity in 1944 and the frequent conflicts between director Wilder and star Raymond Chandler, to be played by Larry Pine. The company also includes Drew Gehling and Sophie von Haselberg.
The production features scenic design by Charlie Corcoran, lighting design by Russell Champa, costume design by Michael Krass, and sound design by David Van Tieghem.
Marshall directed the play when it premiered in 2013 at the Falcon Theater in Los Angeles. He created the television sitcoms Happy Days, Laverne & Shirley, Mork & Mindy, and The Odd Couple, and directed films including Pretty Woman and Beaches, which starred Bette Midler, the mother of cast member von Haselberg.
