2014 Tony Winner Mark Rylance Joins New Steven Spielberg Film
Three-time Tony winner Mark Rylance will join the cast of an as yet unnamed Stephen Spielberg Cold War film, according to published reports. The film is being produced for DreamWorks and is set to begin production this fall.
The movie, which has previously been announced to star Broadway veteran Tom Hanks, features a script by the Coen brothers and is based on a pitch by Matt Charman. The plot follows an American attorney who is enlisted by the CIA during the Cold War to negotiate the release of a Soviet Union-captured pilot. Details about Rylance's character are unknown.
Mark Rylance is the former artistic director of London's Globe Theatre. He has appeared on Broadway in Boeing-Boeing, La Bête, Jerusalem, and, most recently the repertory productions of Richard III and Twelfth Night. He has won Tonys for his work in Boeing-Boeing, Jerusalem, and Twelfth Night.
