The Ballad of Little Jo Offers a Musical Look at the American West
Two River Theater's production of Mike Reid and Sarah Schlesinger's musical opens June 9.
Featuring music by Mike Reid, lyrics by Sarah Schlesinger, and a book by Schlesinger and John Dias, The Ballad of Little Jo is inspired by the real-life story of a woman named Josephine Monaghan. Originally from Boston, Josephine lived in a tough Idaho mining town for nearly 20 years, disguised as a man called "Jo." Dias directs the production.
Featured in the cast are Jane Bruce (Elf) as Sara Stewart Ellis, Daniel K. Isaac (According to My Mother) as Tin Man Wong, Eric William Morris (Mamma Mia!) as Jordan Ellis, and Teal Wicks (Finding Neverland) as Josephine Monaghan/Jo Monaghan. The company also includes Cole Burden, Brian Flores, Leenya Rideout, Christopher Russo, Perry Sherman, Kristin Stokes, Ian Michael Stuart, and Barbara Tirrell.
The creative team for The Ballad of Little Jo includes Michael Carnahan (scenic designer), Jess Goldstein (costume designer), Jennifer Tipton (lighting designer), Drew Levy (sound designer), and Leah J. Loukas (wig designer). Patrick Vaccariello is the music supervisor with orchestrations by Danny Larsen. Fight choreography is by Thomas Schall.
