Shoreh Agdashloo, Jonathan Pryce, Samantha Spiro, et al. Set for Almeida Theatre’s 2012 Season

The Almeida Theatre has announced four selections for its 2012 season.

The slate includes a new production of Federico Garcia Lorca’s The House of Bernarda Alba (January 19-March 10), to be directed by Brian Sheibani. Oscar nominee and Emmy Award winner Shohreh Aghdashloo will star in this play about a stern woman, who after her husband’s death, imposes a strict period of mourning on her daughters. Bunny Christie will design the production, which will have lighting by Jon Clark and sound by Dan Jones.


Next up, Samantha Spiro will headline Tanya Ronder’s new version of Edwardo de Filippo’s Filumena (March 15-May 12). Michael Attenborough will direct the piece which centers on a man caught between his wife and mistress. The production will be designed by Rob Jones, with lighting by Tim Mitchell and sound by John Leonard.

The Almeida will also produce Matthew Dunster’s Children’s Children (May 17 – June 30), a look at two men, friends in while acting students in college, and how their friendship weathers difficult financial straits in mid-life. Jeremy Herrin will direct the production.

In the fall, Tony Award winner Jonathan Pryce will play the title role in William Shakespeare’s King Lear (August 31-November 3). Michael Attenborough will direct the production, to be designed by Tom Scutt with lighting by Jon Clark and sound and music by Dan Jones .
