The West End run presented Kelli O'Hara with a unique opportunity to revisit the role that won her a Tony. "The experience in London was more rich and emotional than I expected," O'Hara revealed. "It was an extraordinary chance to tell a story at a different time and watch the way that effects everything. So much changed in the world from 2015 to 2018. I also wonder if the film will capture the intense level of emotion we all carried with us at that specific and personal time. I will always remember it that way."

Watanabe echoed similar sentiments about returning to the production: "I am grateful I was given another chance to play the King, especially on London's iconic West End. It's such an honor that we've been able to film this production and now global audiences can enjoy it for themselves and see the passion of our wonderful King & I cast on the big screen."
