The longlist for the 2012 British Academy Film Awards (BAFTAs) has been released. The shortlist of nominees will be released on January 17 and the winners will be announced at the Orange British Academy Film Awards ceremony to be held on February 12.

Among the performers who are on the longlist in the Leading Actor category are stage veterans Antonio Banderas, George Clooney, Daniel Craig, Ralph Fiennes, Gary Oldman, and Eddie Redmayne. On the Leading Actress longlist are Viola Davis, Helen Mirren, Carey Mulligan, Meryl Streep, Tilda Swinton, and Michelle Williams.

The longlist for supporting performers includes Kathy Bates, Kenneth Branagh, Jim Broadbent, Albert Brooks, Jessica Chastain, George Clooney, Benedict Cumberbatch, Judi Dench, Philip Seymour Hoffman, John Hurt, Ben Kingsley, Carey Mulligan, Christopher Plummer, Alan Rickman, Zoe Wanamaker, and Evan Rachel Wood.

Among the screenplays that have been placed on the longlist are Woody Allen's Midnight in Paris, John Logan's Hugo, The Ides of March (the adaptation of Beau Willimon's play Farragut North, and War Horse.

The movies that are on the longlist for Best Film are The Artist, The Descendants, Drive, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, The Help, Hugo, The Ides of March, The Iron Lady, Midnight in Paris, Moneyball, My Week with Marilyn, Senna, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, War Horse, and We Need to Talk About Kevin.
