Sam Holcroft's Vanya, Nancy Harris' Kreutzer Sonata Conclude Gate's 30th Season logo
A new version of Anton Chekhov's Uncle Vanya by Sam Holcroft and Nancy Harris' adaptation of Tolstoy's The Kreutzer Sonata are the two productions that round out the year at the Gate Theatre in London.

In Vanya (August 26 - September 26), Holcroft distills Chekhov's tragicomedy to focus on inner lives of the piece's four protagonists. Natalie Abrahami, joint Artistic Director of the Gate, will direct this production, which will feature Fiona Button, Robert Goodale, Susie Trayling, and Simon Wilson.

Harris' adaptation of Sonata (November 5 - December 5) focuses, as does Tolstoy's novella, on what happens when a man boards a train and finds that, in the confined space of the train car, potent memories are triggered. Soon he's confessing to a terrible crime, one for which he holds Beethoven's "Kreutzer Sonata" responsible. Abrahami will also direct Sonata. Casting will be announced at a later date.
