Patina Miller, who played the role of Dionne in the Public Theater's revival of Hair and recently appeared in the Manhattan Theatre Club production of Romantic Poetry, will head the cast of Sister Act: The Musical, which will begin an open-ended run at the London Palladium on May 7.

The production, which will be directed by Peter Schneider, will open officially on June 2. The musical is based on the popular 1992 film written by Joseph Howard. Whoopi Goldberg, who starred in the film, will produce this show.

Sister Act features music by Oscar winner Alan Menken, lyrics by Glenn Slater, and a book by Emmy Award winners Cheri and Bill Steinkellner. Schneider directed the Los Angeles production of Grand Hotel: The Musical and is a producer of such Disney shows as The Lion King.

The plot concerns nightclub singer Deloris Van Cartier (Miller), who is placed in protective custody in a convent as she prepares to testify against her gangster ex-boyfriend. While there, she takes on the guise of Sister Mary Clarence and shakes up the convent's staid ways.

The cast will also include Sheila Hancock, Ian Lavender, Chris Jarman, Ako Mitchell, Katie Rowley Jones, Claire Greenway, Julia Sutton, Thomas Goodridge, Nicolas Colicos, Ivan De Freitas, Vanessa Barmby, Amy Booth-Steel, Julian Cannonier, Ben Clare, Helen Colby, Kate Coyston, Jennie Dale, Jaymz Denning, Nia Fisher, Alison Harding, Paul Kemble, Debbie Kurup, George Long, Hugh Maynard, Jo Napthine, Aysa O'Flaherty, Landi Oshinowo, Verity Quade, Helen Walsh, and Emma Woods.

The creative team includes Michael Kosarin (musical suprevision), Anthony Van Laast (choreography), Klara Zieglerova (sets), Lez Brotherston (costumes), Mick Potter (sound), Natasha Katz (lighting), and Nick Skilbeck (musical direction).
