Victory Gardens Theater begins performances of the new comedy Samsara today. The show follows a trio of parents, an American couple and their Indian surrogate, as they anxiously await the arrival of their child. As they wait, Katie and Suraiya, the mothers, conjure up comical scenarios involving "a seductive Frenchman and a sharp-tongued fetus."

The play is directed by Seth Bockley and written by Lauren Yee. It was originally developed in 2012 at Victory Gardens' Ignition New Play Festival. It features Lori Myers as Katie, Joe Dempsey as Craig, Arya Daire as Suraiya, Behzad Dabu as Amit, and Jeff Parker as the Frenchman.

"We are thrilled to welcome Lauren Yee and Seth Bockley back to Victory Gardens for the world premiere of Samsara," said Artistic Director Chay Yew. "This funny, inventive and emotionally poignant new comedy centers on what it means to be a 21st century American family dealing with issues of surrogacy, globalism and the aching need for connection. A standout play at our IGNITION Festival of New Plays in 2012, we are excited to introduce Lauren and Samsara to our Chicago audiences."

The creative team for Samsara includes Joe Schermoly (scenic design), Samantha C. Jones (costume design), Sarah Hughey (lighting design), Nick Keenan (sound design), Laura Baker (assistant director), and Helen Colleen Lattyak (stage manager).

Performances will run through March 8.
