Larry David Passes Fish in the Dark Baton to Seinfeld Star Jason Alexander

Alexander takes on the role of Norman Drexel, which David originated on Broadway.

Larry David and Jason Alexander met the press on Thursday, May 28, to discuss Alexander's upcoming run in David's Broadway comedy Fish in the Dark at the Cort Theatre. Alexander, who played George Costanza on David's long-running TV series Seinfeld, assumes the role of Norman Drexel, which David originated on Broadway, beginning June 9. David departs the production, alongside fellow original cast member Rita Wilson, on June 7.

A play about a death in the family, Fish in the Dark tells the story of Norman, a man dealing with the passing of his father, as well as his overbearing family. The comedy began previews on February 2 and opened March 5. Anna D. Shapiro directs the limited run, which will officially close on July 18.

Alexander joins a Fish in the Dark company that also includes Glenne Headly (replacing Wilson), Jayne Houdyshell, Rosie Perez, Ben Shenkman, Lewis J. Stadlen, Jake Cannavale, Marylouise Burke, Jerry Adler, Jenn Lyon, Jonny Orsini, Molly Ranson, Maria Elena Ramirez, Rachel Resheff, Joel Rooks, Jeff Still, Kenneth Tigar, and Richard Topol. The understudies are Ali Rose Dachis, Diane J. Findlay, Alexandra Henrikson, Kathleen McNenny, Daniel Molina, and Greg Stuhr.

The creative team includes Todd Rosenthal (scenic design), Ann Roth (costume design), Brian MacDevitt (lighting design), David Yazbek (original music), Rob Milburn and Michael Bodeen (sound design), and Alan D'Angerio (wig design). Scott Rudin and Lloyd Braun serve as lead producers.
