The Huntington Theatre Company will present a free public reading of August Wilson's Ma Rainey's Black Bottom, February 23 at 7pm. Liesl Tommy is directing the Huntington's upcoming production, which as previously reported, stars ER's Yvette Freeman in the title role.

In the play, a quartet of blues musicians gather in a run-down Chicago studio waiting for Ma Rainey to arrive to record new sides of her old favorites.

The cast also includes Joniece Abbot-Pratt (Dussie Mae), Corey Allen (Sylvester), Jason Bowen (Levee), Thomas Derrah (Sturdyvant), Will LeBow (Irvin), Timothy J. Smith (Policeman), G. Valmont Thomas (Cutler), Glenn Turner (Slow Drag), and Charles Weldon (Toledo).

The reading continues the Huntington's efforts to bring its work beyond its home on the Avenue of the Arts to Boston's neighborhoods and communities.
