Elaine May is a true titan of American comedy and drama. Her career began as one half of the groundbreaking improv duo Nichols and May, who revolutionized sketch comedy in the 1950s and ’60s. She went on to become an acclaimed screenwriter (Heaven Can Wait, Primary Colors), director (A New Leaf, The Heartbreak Kid, Mikey and Nicky) and actress (Small Time Crooks, The Birdcage). In 2018, May returned to Broadway after 50 years to star in The Waverly Gallery, a performance that earned her the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Play. Known for her incisive intellect and ability to find deep emotional truths beneath layers of humor, May brings a rare creative force to this production—her first time directing a new play in decades.
